Highly Sensitive Strengths
Highly sensitive people can get a bad rep. We often hear about the overwhelm, the emotional reactivity, the sensory overload, the additional needs and accommodations we could use to thrive. But we don’t often hear about the strengths of our trait, and there are many.
Highly sensitive people make amazing friends. We are caring, empathetic, and deeply invested in our relationships. We wear our heart on our sleeve and build authentic connections and love deeply.
We make amazing leaders. Our high empathy makes it easy for us to connect with those we lead, and understand their needs and how to fully support them so they can perform their best. We also take in a lot of information and tend to see things from a different perspective - often combining our knowledge and intuition to make informed, effective decisions.
HSPs make excellent caretakers. We are highly attuned to all people, and therefore have an easier time knowing what they need, predicting future needs, and adding in little touches that make a world of difference when caring for someone.
We are incredibly creative. Highly sensitive people are deeply intuitive and connected to the complex beauty of our world. We see and appreciate the dualities of life and often channel this into creative pursuits, capturing the essence of our existence in an impactful way.
Highly sensitive people are healers. Even if you don’t go into a healing profession, the very act of you existing in the world is healing. Our society needs sensitive people to show them how to love more deeply, cultivate more compassion, and lead with empathy.
We respond more positively to healing modalities and self improvement. While we are more impacted by “negative” experiences in life, we are also more impacted by the things we do to heal ourselves. This means that your healing journey will be incredibly rewarding for you, and the methods you find working will have a lasting effect.
HSPs venture to make positive change in the world. The empowered highly sensitive person will often see the ways in which our society is not operating optimally (think climate change, homelessness, poverty, etc.) and can see the heart-based solutions we need to address them. Many HSPs take on work to make an impact in these areas, and succeed.
… and so many more!
I spent most of my life (literally 20 years) thinking I was broken and damaged. I don’t want anyone else to feel that way. It’s awful, it’s not fair, and it’s unnecessary. You are a gorgeous, beautiful, complex, valuable human being. You deserve to view yourself as such.
